My latest novel, Blood & Feathers, is currently available in seril format, on both Kindle Vella and Patreon (which allows you to go behind the scenes to discover more).
Read it now, if you love:
Slow burn romance
Court fantasy where you’re not sure who to trust
Generational mystery with family secrets
Blood magic
Monsters that look like men, and vice versa
While the full book will be coming out early next year, if you read it now, as it’s being developed, you have the chance to vote on fun extras and you can also change the ending of the story. Recent votes allowed me to release a background legend of one of the historical figures in the novel, which you can read for free here!
The current poll, open to everyone and free to vote in, is about which character you’d like to see more background information on. You options are:
Char, the dashing young man from Sumar who seems interested (maybe too interested?) in Princess Sine
Raye, the efficient queensguard from Frank who has recently joined Sine’s ranks as a protector…although she may have her own motives
Rigby—his chapters are currently a part of the story, but if you’d like to see more about his character, I can release the original first chapter with notes on how his role in the story developed.
And make sure to check back at that site again next week, where there will be another poll after a momentous event happens in the story. There are certain elements of the book that are set in stone—including the death that’s coming up soon—but the end of the book could be a tragedy or a happily ever after. Your votes will help determine that!
Special thanks to everyone who’s voted, crowned, liked, and faved Blood and Feathers on Kindle Vella—your votes have made this book consistently rank in the top ten of all YA novels on the platform (here it is in the tenth spot, and ranked as #60 out of all serials on the entire platform).
Don’t forget: you still have free tokens! If you click on Blood and Feathers, you will automatically be offered 200 free tokens just for clicking.
Doing this helps us both—you get 200 free tokens to read locked episodes, and I get a bonus at the end of the month for you using your free tokens (and more if you like or fave the story). If you’d like to support this project but can’t afford to spend cash on it, this is an absolutely free way to do just that.
What helps the most:
FOLLOW the story
LIKE each episode
CROWN the story (which you can do once per week)
Leave a REVIEW!
I also hope that you’re enjoying the interactive nature of this story, because my next one is turning that element up to eleven. If you’re a writer or just someone interested in how stories develop, I highly suggest you check out the “Magic Museum” posts I’ve been putting on Patreon.
In short, I’m taking you from the initial idea of a book—and I mean literally, the first seeds of the idea, the vague little elements that coalesce into something more—and showcasing how they evolve into a story.
But this story? It’s not going to be like a traditional book. I’ve already made the main character’s description based entirely on randomized dice rolls (similar to a D&D character creation), and I’m plotting the story using a combination of tarot card draws, dice rolls, and more polls and interaction from you.
This story—currently called The Museum of Magic—is still in the early developments, and you can read the behind-the-scenes of how an author crafts a story now. Chapters will start rolling out when Blood and Feathers wraps up, probably in about two months, depending on how people vote for the end of Blood and Feathers to be.
This is really and truly the ultimate breakdown in craft—I’ve never plotted the way a book is made as much as I have here. And if you want to see it happen, live and as it develops, the best way is to join now.
