Friends, I truly appreciate you! This has been a wild time for me, with lots of secret projects and, frankly, a ton of gratitude. I make no secret that my career was somewhat in jeopardy only a few short years ago—and now I find myself working on multiple books and joyful new beginnings.
I know I couldn’t be here without you. Books are just ink and paper until a reader brings them to life.
And now that I’m at the end of my deadlines and approaching the season of gratitude and giving, I want to give something back in return to you. At all the various events I’ve had this year, I’ve made a point to purchase a copy of a signed book from the hosts at the events. My gift to you this year is signed copies of all the books I’ve published this year (including two that aren’t yet released and an ARC of a book coming out next year!) and signed copies of all the people who hosted me on book tour!
THE PRIZE:
One person will get NINE SIGNED BOOKS! Open internationally, you can enter by both commenting on this newsletter with something or someone you’re grateful for and/or comment on this very newsletter post with the same. Do both, get two entries!

DUAL BOOK LAUNCH!
NEXT WEEK, I have not one but TWO books coming out?! More about them below—but my picture book debut, Star Wars: Someone Who Loves You will be out December 3…and so will the sequel to Full Speed to a Crash Landing, the exciting follow up titled How to Steal a Galaxy!
As always, you can get these and ANY of my books signed from my beloved Asheville bookstore, Malaprops. Shop small, shop local…and remember, we’re still recovering from the hurricane, so shopping at Malaprops is helping a community that was hit hard by the worst natural disaster in a century!
Digital Sale for Full Speed + How to Steal a Galaxy coming soon!
To gear up for the launch of my second Chaotic Orbits book, my publisher has put the ebook and audio of Full Speed to a Crash Landing on sale!
You can get the book bargain for a limited time here! Additionally, the audiobooks are on discount as well, from both Audible and Libro.FM. You’ll have plenty of time to devour this slender volume in time for the sequel How to Steal a Galaxy!
Full Speed, the first book, had been racking up awards—it’s an Amazon Editors' Pick,
Gizmodo's New Sci-Fi selection, and was hailed as August’s Best Sci-Fi and Fantasy Books by Literary Hub. I’m also thrilled to share that the sequel, How to Steal a Galaxy is also getting good buzz!
It’s also been selected as a December Bonus Pick for Library Reads!
So, what is How to Steal a Galaxy? In short, it’s:
The Met Gala
in space
with all the fanciest outfits
(and maybe a surprise twist)
…and Ada’s going to steal something.
While Full Speed was a con of deception, as Ada attempted to steal something right out from under watchful Rian’s razor-sharp gaze, How to Steal is a full-on, Ocean’s Eleven style heist!
Here’s the deal: Ada is 1000% going to steal something. But neither you nor Rian know what…
And so far, not one single soul has accurately guessed the real reason she’s attending the galaxy’s most elite gala. Which makes me cackle—and makes me pretty confident in saying that if you’re a fan of heist movies, you’re going to love this one!
As always, you can get this book anywhere books are sold, or from your library. If you’d like signed and personalized copies, Malaprops has you covered!
Star Wars: Someone Who Loves You
I happened to record the moment I first heard about the opportunity to write Someone Who Loves You. I was in my local bakery—you can see in the photo that the Christmas decorations were up. The date? December 20, 2022.
At the time, I was frantically working on something (that I still have in the hopper—it ended up not being the story I needed to write then). This was before Night of the Witch had sold, before Full Speed was even written, before I got the chance to work on the secret project I just finished.
It was a time where I was starting to lose hope. And when the email with the initial pitch came through, I remember just beaming with joy. It felt like a sign: Don’t give up yet. Keep going.
And this year has been the result of those seeds planted so long ago. In December of 2022, the only real assurance I had that my career wasn’t utterly floundering was this picture book. And it felt so full of hope—it was all about love, all about joy, all about possibility.
Over the next few weeks, I spent a long, long time coming up with ideas, roughly sketching images (I am not an illustrator, and bless Sophie Li, who actually made the pictures look good!).
Next newsletter, I’m going to go a bit more behind the scenes, but for now, I just want to let you know that (a) the book is almost out! Coming the first Tuesday of December! and (b) it would make an absolutely wonderful gift for the loved ones in your life. It is a picture book suitable for ages 4+, but it’s also charming and sweet and would make a lovely gift for any loved one in your life.
It’s Star Wars, so you’ll find it wherever you find books, but if you’d like signed and personalized copies, order from Malaprops!
GoodReads Giveaway!
Why on Earth, an alien shared-world anthology I’m a part of, is having a giveaway over on GoodReads! You can enter here.
This anthology is SO much fun! Basically, a group of aliens crashland in Santa Monica, and every author in the anthology writes a continuation of the story through the eyes of different characters—some write human witnesses, some write the aliens…and I wrote the story of a small-town Appalachian girl who finds an escape pod that happened to detatch from the main ship by accident.
